These images were captured in October on a trip to Ghana. I was there to shoot a documentary about my godmother, Juanita Britton, who was being crowned as Queen Mother of KONKO Village. Our arrival coincided with the beginning of the annual Odwira Festival, which takes place in the Akon Mountains. This was one of the most profound experiences of my life....I hope the images give you some kind of idea of what its was like.

When I arrived to Melbourne I connected with an organization called THE SOCIAL STUDIO, who's mission is to create training and employment for Australia's refugee communities through Fashion Design.
Students, often seeking asylum from the continent of Africa, are taught the intricate nature of fashion as a business (from creative inception to the runway).
I was invited to shoot backstage at their biannual fashion show.
The show was held at a converted underground parking garage turned artist compound. Melbourne has a vibrant artist and music scene.

Friend and photographer, KEVIN AMATO, asked me to be his assistant for his shoot with Dazed and Confused Magazine.

When the magazine asked that I take exclusive behind the scenes photographs during the shoot for the DAZED DIGITAL website I was happy to oblige.

This was the first shoot CHRIS WINTERS (Red Models), and he has since quickly made his mark in the modeling world.

I was asked to shoot a series of images that would be used to brand his line of dress socks. The collection targets a refined gentleman seeking comfort and support.

I wanted the viewer to the get the sense that the socks are so supportive you feel as though you are levitating.

I had the opportunity to spend in a month in Brazil in January of 2010. I jumped on a plane Christmas day, and landed in the beautiful city of Salvador, Bahia.

The city sits on the ocean.

The city was the first of many stops made by the slave ships during the middle passage.

The city retains an extremely rich African rhythm.

You can feel the power of the DIASPORA in the music, in the way it dances, the way it smells, and taste.

Its love, its fear, its power, and helplessness to history.
